The chains of pain...

...not the epic from Bob Geldof, but Climate Chains, which are being used by the green left to shackle capitalism. Rattle those chains and view the trailer of the about to be released movie ...
...An epic debate is soon to begin in the U.S. Senate. The proposed Cap-and-Trade legislation would have a far-reaching impact on your standard of living and give government a portal into every aspect of your life. The affordable, dependable and abundant energy upon which any great civilization is built is about to be rationed. Please make the time to view this short video trailer and share it with your friends...here...
...and an update (H/T and thanks to A Western Heart) on the enquiry into the Australian bushfires...
...Residents in one of the areas devastated on Black Saturday were not allowed to clear highly flammable, noxious tea tree on their land because it was classified as native vegetation by the local council, the royal commission into the bushfire disaster has been told. Peter Wiltshire, who suffered serious burns and damaged airways trying unsuccessfully to save his home at St Andrews on February 7, said yesterday the tea tree, known as burgan, was "extremely flammable and lets off gases in heat". Wildfire from burning burgan on a neighbouring property created enough radiant heat to cause a horsefloat at one end of his house to instantaneously burst into flame. But the local Nillumbik Shire Council stopped landowners clearing burgan without applying for permission, Mr Wiltshire said. "They call it native vegetation and we are not allowed to clear it without a permit. It is probably the most noxious and flammable material. It really is a pest and dangerous." ...more here...

Thermageddon, Victoria Australia, February 2009...

...I've commented before that the green political movement has the blood of innocents on its hands over the needless banning of DDT, and because of its bigotted hatred of genetic modification. Just this year and close to home, 173 Australians died in Australian bushfires. Green policies are thought to have contributed to their deaths...In 1994, Ray Evans bought a cottage at Marysville (Victoria, Australia) which he and his wife subsequently renovated and extended. The cottage and its extensive garden were destroyed by fire on the night of Saturday February 7 – now known as Black Saturday. In the following provocative and political article Mr Evans blames the fire “on green doctrine” and the Victorian government wilfully ignoring the advice of a previous inquiry because it did not want to “offend the sensitivities of the greens..."
"...currently the clearing of fallen logs and other debris from roadsides is prohibited. This prohibition is another example of Green Power in action. People should not only be allowed, but should be encouraged, to obtain firewood from the roadside and to keep the road verges clear of debris. The capture by the Greens of a number of shire councils and the regulations such councils imposed on new housing certainly aggravated the damage and arguably caused increased loss of life on Black Saturday. This issue has received considerable attention in the media but there has been no comment on how a small group of people, admittedly passionate in the religion which gives meaning and purpose to their lives, can capture a council and impose regulations which are not only dreadful in their consequences but are also regarded as lunatic by most people...more from Jennifer Marohasy here...
...and from Vaclac Klaus...environmentalism ...is becoming a new dominant ideology, if not a religion. Its main weapon is raising the alarm and predicting the human life endangering climate change based on man-made global warming. The recent awarding of Nobel Prize to the main apostle of this hypothesis was the last straw because by this these ideas were elevated to the pedestal of "holy and sacred" uncriticisable truths...more here...

This post brought to you by the green movement...

...this, in an unusually serious vein, from the maestro Iowahawk...

...This is Bakouma Kpatekatola, a young man from the West African nation of Togo. In 2003, when Bakouma was 9 years old, my family became his sponsor through the Childreach-Plan USA organization. In the years since we became occasional pen pals; a few times a year we'd get a letter from him, in his native French, along with an English translation from his caseworker. Sometimes he spoke of coming to America. At Christmas the letters would contain a photo, which we ritually magnetted up on the fridge to chronicle his growth. We reciprocated with our family pictures. I sometimes wondered if he wondered about us like we wondered about him. I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I didn't really notice when we didn't receive his annual Christmas letter last year. Yesterday we received a letter from his caseworker explaining why: Bakouma died in December of malaria. He was 14 years old...more here...

...ah, the hypocrisy of the "caring" left...Denis Dutton made Iowahawk's exact point in the NZ Herald in 2002...Why fear mongering greens doom children to death... remember this, when the attractive, naive young greenpeace volunteer accosts you in the mall next time...

Green activists keep Africa poor...

...and have to acknowledge the fact that they have "blood on their hands". Denis Dutton made this point clearly and directly in the NZ Herald in 2005. Here...
More recently, his opinion is echoed by Mark Henderson, Science Editor of The Times, here...
